This photography method, known
as “collimation”, allows you to take super telephoto pictures easily.
Focal Length Comparisons
By using a compact digital camera, a
digiscoping system is compact and light weight yet still has an extremely small
F/ number. Bright and clear photographing is possible.
There will be a lot of walking when doing
this type of photography and it is important for the equipment to be as light as
possible. A digiscoping system is approximately 6.5
to 11 pounds, including the weight of a tripod.
You can enjoy super telephotography with a system that is lighter and more
compact than one telephoto lens.
This is a very attractive feature for long trips or traveling.

Until now the equipment for super telephotography was
extremely expensive. An entire digiscoping
system can be put together at a comparatively low cost. Digiscoping
also allows you to easily dispose of unwanted photos and print only the photos
you want, substantially reducing the running costs.
The focal
length of a digiscope system can be changed by simply increasing or decreasing
the magnification of the eyepiece. Digiscoping can be done at a wide range
of focal lengths without changing the digital camera or spotting scope.
